Kelly Clarkson recently disclosed that she has been using weight loss medication as part of her health journey.
On the May 13 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, 42-year-old Clarkson interviewed Whoopi Goldberg, beginning their discussion by admiring Goldberg’s youthful appearance.
Clarkson remarked, “Every time I see you, you seem younger! It’s like you’re reverse aging – absolutely astonishing every time!”
Goldberg, aged 68 and an EGOT winner, responded, “First of all, it’s all the weight I’ve lost. I’ve lost almost two people. I am taking that wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help, and it’s been really good for me.”
Clarkson promptly related, sharing that she, too, had experienced considerable weight loss. She elaborated, “Mine is different than what people assume, but I ended up having to do that too because my bloodwork was so bad.”
She added, “My doctor pursued me for two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid issues. Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, but it’s not. It’s something else.'”
Clarkson explained that her medication helps with sugar breakdown, which her body struggles with naturally. The American Idol alum stressed that she is not using Ozempic, a drug commonly prescribed for type 2 diabetes that affects satiety through the brain.
During their conversation, both women shared their peak weights before starting their medications. Goldberg revealed, “I weighed 300 lbs at my heaviest.”
Clarkson shared, “At my heaviest, I weighed around 203 lbs. I am about 5’3″ and a half tall.”
Before talking with Goldberg, Clarkson had revealed in January that she managed to lose weight by heeding her doctor’s advice, something she had neglected for years.
Clarkson also mentioned that relocating to New York City has been conducive to her fitness, describing city walks as a significant form of exercise. She has incorporated infrared saunas and cold plunges into her routine.
Regarding her diet, Clarkson noted it includes a “healthy mix,” and she is diligent about it 90% of the time, favoring a protein-rich diet. “Being from Texas, I love meat—apologies to the vegetarians out there!”
Later that month, on her show with guest Kevin James, she revealed that she was pre-diabetic, which spurred her weight loss efforts.
Clarkson humorously recalled her reaction to the diagnosis, “They told me, ‘You’re pre-diabetic, right on the edge.’ And I thought, ‘Well, I’m not quite there yet.'” She waited another two years before deciding to actively manage her health.
