Lisa To Make History As the First K-Pop Star To Perform at Oscars

Thai K-pop superstar Lalisa “Lisa” Manobal will perform at the Academy Awards this Sunday in a special tribute to the film industry, joining several prominent figures. The upcoming performance will make her the first K-pop artist to perform at the prestigious award event.

She will share the stage with American rapper Doja Cat and British singer Raye, her recent collaborators on the single “Born Again.”

Also set to appear are “Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, and Queen Latifah, as announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles on Monday.

While the specifics of their performances remain under wraps, the Academy has revealed that the tribute will honor the filmmaking community and some of its legendary figures, following the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

Departing from tradition, this year’s ceremony will omit live performances of the Best Original Song nominees. Instead, the event will feature personal reflections and behind-the-scenes looks at the songwriters and the music’s creative processes.

Critics have expressed concerns about the selection process, particularly the invitation extended to an artist whose song, “Born Again,” is a television theme rather than a film song, stirring debate over its relevance to the nominated film songs.

The 97th Academy Awards will be broadcast live this Sunday, starting at 4 PM Los Angeles time, which is 7 AM Monday in Thailand.

Lisa, fresh from her acting debut in the popular HBO TV series “The White Lotus,” is gearing up to release her first solo album, “Alter Ego,” this Friday under her production label Lloud and RCA Records.

Meanwhile, Blackpink is set to kick off their 2025 World Tour at Goyang Stadium in South Korea on July 5.
