The Duchess of Sussex might be heading into another legal confrontation following allegations from a Spanish mayor who accuses her of copying a design.
Mayor Francisca Mora Veny of Porreres, Majorca, asserts that the logo for Meghan’s latest lifestyle brand strikingly mirrors the town’s traditional coat of arms.
This comes after Meghan launched the rebrand of her ‘As Ever’ lifestyle enterprise on social media this week, expressing her enthusiasm for its long-anticipated debut.
The branding includes a minimalist logo featuring a palm tree and two birds, closely resembling the ancient emblem of Porreres.
The coat of arms of Spain, dating back over 600 years, also depicts a palm tree flanked by two birds within a shield-like border.
In an interview with The Sun, Ms. Mora Veny shared her astonishment at the resemblance of the logos and mentioned her intention to request the removal of Meghan’s logo.
“We don’t want our coat of arms to be perverted because it belongs exclusively to Porreres,” she said.
“The only difference between their logo and our coat of arms is that theirs shows two hummingbirds, whereas ours features either swallows or pigeons—historians cannot agree.”
“We will ask Meghan to remove the logo from their website,” stated the mayor.
The mayor speculated on the origin of Meghan’s design idea, adding, “I don’t know if she visited some agritourism sites and saw the coat of arms because the photo on her website is taken from Mallorca.”
Local authorities are now considering whether to take legal action.
Meghan has not yet publicly addressed these allegations since her social media announcement of the new brand.
She added, “And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can, so as things are starting to trickle out there, I wanted you to hear it from me first.”
She continued, “I’ve missed sharing these with you as I once did, but now I’m able to, and as these projects begin to emerge, I wanted you to hear it straight from me.”
Reports indicate that the recent rebranding to ‘As Ever’ by Meghan Markle followed challenges in securing a trademark for ‘American Riviera Orchard.’
The application was turned down in the summer of 2024 due to issues with the filing process.
While specific details about the range of products Meghan intends to offer through As Ever remain unclear, she has announced that the lineup will include jams.
