Meghan Markle is offering new insight into her personal journey, revealing that her life has not turned out exactly as she had “envisioned.” Despite the unexpected twists, the Duchess of Sussex says she is grateful to share her life with Prince Harry and their children.
Speaking on her podcast “Confessions of a Female Founder,” Markle reflected on how her plans have evolved over time.
She explained that she “always wanted to be a mom” and had once imagined herself delivering speeches “with a baby on [her] hip.” She added, “I had a whole vision. You fast forward [and] … it was not the way I envisioned it.”
Markle noted, with a laugh, that there were “a lot of external things happening by the time [she] had both pregnancies and both babies.”
The Duchess gave birth to her first child, Archie, now five years old, while she and Prince Harry were still working members of the British Royal Family.
The couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and later moved to Montecito, California, where Markle gave birth to their daughter, Lilibet, in 2021.
To mark their wedding anniversary, Markle shared a personal moodboard featuring highlights from her relationship with Prince Harry. Among the images was a silhouette of the Duchess during pregnancy, accompanied by an ultrasound photo believed to be of Archie.
“For me, it’s so important my kids see me as a working mom,” Markle said.
Separately, Prince Harry recently lost his appeal over UK government-provided security. In a BBC interview, he expressed concern over the safety of his family and a desire to reconcile with his father.
“Look at the risk, look at the threat, look at the impact that if anything was to happen to me, my wife, or my father’s grandchildren. If anything was to happen to them, look where the responsibility lies,” he said earlier this month.
Following the ruling, Harry told the BBC, “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”
“I don’t want history to repeat itself,” he added, referring to the death of his mother, Princess Diana, who was fatally injured while fleeing paparazzi under private security.
“I think there’s a lot of other people out there, the majority, that also don’t want history to repeat itself. Through the disclosure process, I’ve discovered that some people want history to repeat itself, which is pretty dark.”
Sources close to the Royal Family say Harry’s actions continue to strain relations with the monarchy. According to The Times, “in Charles’s mind” Harry has “most egregiously crossed the line.”
A separate source told Page Six that trust remains a central issue. “They genuinely think nobody trusts him and that’s the bottom line. The royal family has major trust issues with him and that’s what’s at the heart of everything,” the source said.
“They don’t trust him and Meghan and that’s why they can’t have a relationship … maybe there’s room to forgive, but they won’t forget,” the source added.
