Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated after nearly 20 years of marriage. The A-list couple, who tied the knot in June 2006, share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Kidman, an Academy Award-winning actress, and Urban, a four-time Grammy-winning country star, had long been considered one of Hollywood’s most enduring partnerships.
The separation was first reported by TMZ, which cited unnamed sources claiming the pair had been living apart since the summer. The outlet also reported that Kidman was not in favour of the split.
The reason behind the separation remains unclear.
Kidman and Urban, who both grew up in Australia, have weathered many highs and lows during their relationship. Professionally, the couple enjoyed success on a global scale, supporting each other at red carpet events, award ceremonies, and premieres.
Their nearly two decades together included numerous public appearances that often highlighted their affection and admiration for one another.
But their marriage was also tested. Just months after their wedding, Urban checked into rehab for drug and alcohol addiction.
Both have spoken openly about the impact of that period, saying it ultimately strengthened their bond.
Kidman, alongside Urban’s close friends, staged an intervention that the singer later credited with saving his life. “Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together,” he said during a 2010 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
He also praised Kidman’s influence in his life, adding: “I look back now and realize Nic has taught me so much and brought so much into my life and opened my eyes in so many ways. [This is] the best place I’ve ever been.”
Despite recent challenges, the pair were still seen publicly together in recent months. In June, they were photographed at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville, Tennessee.
The previous month, they attended the Academy of Country Music Awards, where Urban was honoured with the ACM Triple Crown Award. The couple appeared affectionate, holding hands and sharing kisses during the ceremony.
Kidman’s marriage to Urban was her second. She was previously married to actor Tom Cruise for more than a decade. The pair, who adopted two children together, divorced in 2001.
