Noel Gallagher has said he and his Oasis bandmates have been “completely blown away” by the reaction to their hit reunion tour, which comes after 16 years away.
Speaking to talkSport’s Andy Goldstein about the opening UK and Ireland dates, Gallagher said he was “proud” of his younger brother and frontman Liam, adding: “it’s been great to be back” performing together.
The band played to a sold-out crowd at Dublin’s Croke Park last weekend and will head to North America next, before returning to London next month for more Wembley Stadium shows.
Gallagher admitted the comeback has been overwhelming. He said it was “difficult to put it into words” and recalled his legs “turned to jelly” when Oasis took the stage in Cardiff for their first show in July.
“Every night is the crowd’s first night,” he noted. “So every night’s got that same energy to it, but it’s been truly amazing. I’m not usually short for words, but I can’t really articulate it at the minute.”
Tickets for the Oasis Live ’25 tour made headlines last year after selling out in minutes, with many fans left frustrated by a controversial pricing model. The band’s first appearance back together in Cardiff, arms raised as they walked on stage, marked a dramatic end to years of public feuding following their 2009 split.
BBC music correspondent Mark Savage wrote that Oasis sounded the “best they’ve been since the ’90s,” describing the shows as “like a reconciliation – or a sigh of relief – as the brothers buried the hatchet of a decades-long feud and reconnected with their fans.”
On Tuesday, in what appeared to be his first public comments about the comeback, Noel admitted: “I grossly underestimated what I was getting into. After about five minutes [in Cardiff], I was like, alright can I just go back to the dressing room and start this again?
“I’ve done stadiums before and all that but I don’t mind telling you, my legs had turned to jelly after about halfway through the second song [Acquiesce, which sees the brothers duet together]. And I could have done with going back and taking a minute. But it’s been an amazing thing.”
‘Proud’ of Liam
Asked about the on-stage hug Liam gave him at the end of the first gig, Noel replied: “We’re not those kind of guys really, d’you know what I mean? It’s great just to be back with Bonehead [Oasis’s founding guitarist] and Liam and just be doing it again.”
“I guess when it’s all said and done, we’ll sit and reflect on it. But it’s great being back in the band with Liam – I forgot how funny he was.”
He went on to say Liam was “smashing it” and that he was “proud of him,” joking that his brother’s strong vocals must be down to “AI.”
Noel, who performs five songs in the 23-track setlist each night, added: “Having fronted a band [Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds] for 16 years, I know how difficult that is. I couldn’t do the stadium thing like he does it; it’s not in my nature. But I’ve got to say, I think, you know, good for you mate. He’s been amazing.”
Gallagher declined to comment on whether the band would continue after the tour ends in November.
Headlines and Viral Moments
The Oasis Live ’25 shows have already attracted global headlines. A fan died after falling from a height at a Wembley Stadium concert this month, while authorities are also investigating reports of hundreds of fans sneaking into the venue without tickets.
The tour has also produced several viral moments, including a marriage proposal at Murrayfield and Liam describing the City of Edinburgh Council as “a bunch of snakes,” after officials labelled Oasis fans likely to be “rowdy” and “intoxicated.”
In Dublin, Liam dedicated “Stand By Me” to their mother Peggy, who was watching from the crowd, while in Manchester Pep Guardiola received a shout-out and was photographed backstage with the Gallagher brothers’ children.
The band will play Toronto, Canada, on Sunday evening before continuing their North American run.
