Sir Rod Stewart has cancelled a number of US concerts as he recovers from the flu, just weeks before his highly anticipated appearance at Glastonbury Festival later this month.
The 80-year-old music legend is set to perform the coveted Sunday teatime slot on 29 June, returning to Worthy Farm 23 years after his last appearance at the festival in 2002.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Stewart announced the cancellation of four shows and the rescheduling of two more, all originally planned over the next eight days.
“So sorry, my friends,” he wrote. “I’m devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I’ll be back on stage and will see you soon.”
He signed off the message “Sir Rod” with a broken heart emoji.
The cancelled concerts include performances in Las Vegas and Stateline, Nevada, while the postponed dates are in California. No further details were provided about his recovery timeline.
Stewart recently announced plans to scale back his touring commitments, stating that he intends to end large-scale world tours at the close of 2025 in favour of performing at more intimate venues.
Despite this, he expressed enthusiasm for his upcoming Glastonbury slot, saying he was “proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury” when he was revealed as the first confirmed act for this year’s festival.
Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Stewart noted that his set on the Pyramid Stage is currently scheduled to last one hour and fifteen minutes.
“But I’ve asked them, ‘Please, another 15 minutes,’ because I play for over two hours every night and it’s nothing,” he added.
He also revealed he would be joined on stage by his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood.
Known for timeless hits such as “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?”, “Every Beat of My Heart,” and “Maggie May,” Stewart remains one of the best-selling artists of all time.
His Glastonbury performance will see him follow in the footsteps of past Sunday legends slot performers including Dolly Parton, Barry Gibb, Shania Twain, and Kylie Minogue.
This year’s legends slot will be particularly notable, as Stewart becomes the first artist to headline the festival and later return in the legends role. His previous Glastonbury appearance in 2002 saw him share the bill with Coldplay and Stereophonics.
Headliners for Glastonbury 2025 include The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo.
