Taylor Swift is ushering in a new musical era with the announcement of her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” set for release on Friday, October 3.
The pop superstar revealed the news on Wednesday, August 13, via Instagram, unveiling the album’s cover art alongside the announcement.
The cover features Swift in a sparkling, cut-out one-piece, reclining in water with one hand resting on her head. Her signature red lipstick and smoky eye makeup complete the look.
“And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ Out October 3,” she captioned the post.
Produced by Swift, Max Martin and Shellback, the album embraces a showgirl-inspired aesthetic. Promotional images feature the singer in rhinestones, feathers, and elaborate headpieces.
The newly released track list confirms a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter on the title track, alongside songs such as “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Ruin the Friendship,” “Honey,” “Actually Romantic,” “CANCELLED!,” “Eldest Daughter,” “Father Figure,” “Opalite,” and “The Fate of Ophelia.”
Swift teased the project in an Instagram video on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, at 12:12 a.m. E.T. on Tuesday, August 12.
In the clip, she presented a mint-green briefcase marked “T.S.” to Jason, revealing it contained her “brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.” Travis responded with an enthusiastic “TS 12!”
At the time, the album cover remained unreleased, though Swift’s website soon displayed blurred mint green and orange artwork alongside pre-order options for vinyl, cassette, and CD formats, the latter including a poster.
Background details in the teaser featured orange-covered books by artists Jean-Michel Basquiat, Marc Chagall, and Ruth Asawa.
Two days earlier, on August 11, Swift’s website launched a countdown clock against a glittering orange backdrop, expiring at 12:12 a.m. E.T., and confirming her appearance on New Heights on August 13.
In the podcast clip, she complimented Kelce’s blue sweatshirt, prompting his reply, “It’s the color of your eyes, sweetie. It’s why we match so well,” before she exclaimed, “We’re about to do a f—ing podcast!”
The New Heights account also teased Swift’s guest appearance with a silhouette image set against an orange and mint green background that matched her website’s countdown theme.
“The Life of a Showgirl” follows Swift’s 2024 release, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
