ONE Championship, a staple in Thailand’s combat sports scene, is making its third trip to the Middle East with ONE 171: Qatar on February 20, 2025.
Partnering with Visit Qatar, this marks the second time the event will be held at Lusail Sports Arena, almost a year after its initial outing there.
If you’re planning a trip to the region in February, tickets are available through the event’s official ticketing partner, Q-Tickets.
Qatar is rapidly becoming a premier destination for sports and culture, with round-trip flights to Doha frequently falling below THB20,000 and day trips like desert safaris and sandboarding available for around THB2,000.
This month, the city debuted in the Michelin Guide, highlighting two restaurants that received their first stars, including IDAM by Alain Ducasse, a name well-known to Bangkokians.
In the main event, fan-favorite and ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty will defend his title against Chinese kickboxing star Wei Rui.
Haggerty is looking to make a comeback after a surprising KO loss to Thai superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9, who claimed the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title from him at ONE 168: Denver last September.
Despite the defeat, Haggerty remains a formidable striker, with his last three victories ending in knockouts.
His opponent, Wei Rui, made a strong impression in his promotional debut with a unanimous decision win over former champion Hiroki Akimoto this past May.
Having become China’s first K-1 Champion in 2017, Wei is currently on a 21-fight winning streak, providing a serious challenge to Haggerty’s championship.
The card also features a World Title trilogy match between current strawweight champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio and interim champion Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks.
They will compete to unify the ONE Strawweight MMA World Championship at ONE 171: Qatar.
Their rivalry started at ONE 164 in December 2022, where Brooks won by unanimous decision with his aggressive striking and grappling, taking the title.
Their rematch at ONE 166: Qatar ended controversially, with Brooks disqualified for an illegal move, resulting in him losing the title.
