Chelsea Earn Valuable Away Draw at Mighty Real Madrid

Chelsea defied the odds to earn an important 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium on Tuesday. Thomas Tuchel’s men put in a good performance to gain a slender advantage in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie.

In the first half hour of the match, the Blues were far superior to their opponents. Timo Werner had a clear-cut chance to score, but his close-range shot was miraculously saved by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

In the 14th minute, Antonio Rudiger sent a sensational long ball to Christian Pulisic. The American dribbled past Courtois and scored the first goal of the match.

Karim Benzema tried to surprise goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with a shot from outside the box, but the ball hit the left-hand post.

However, in the 29th minute Benzema got his revenge and scored the equaliser with a spectacular volley.

In the second half, the match was even and tight and both teams seemed to be content with the result.

Chelsea (for now) have the advantage thanks to the away goal rule, but must secure their ticket to the final with a good result in the second leg at Stamford Bridge on 5 May.

This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City will play the second leg of the other semi-final.
