Chelsea Sacks Coach Frank Lampard and Targets Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea made the sacking of manager Frank Lampard official on Monday. Poor results this season have forced the club to make a radical decision.

“We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club. However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement,” said Chelsea in a statement.

Thus ends the Frank Lampard era, which began in July 2019 when the former midfielder was hired to replace Italian coach Maurizio Sarri.

He failed to win any title, although he led Chelsea to the 2019/20 FA Cup final against Arsenal and managed the team in the 2019 European Super Cup against Liverpool.

His last game on the bench was Sunday’s 3-1 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup. Lampard managed Chelsea to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League, but in the Premier League they were ninth with 29 points after 19 games.

“I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future”, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic said.

According to the British press, the Blues are now after German coach Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain a few weeks ago.
