On Friday, Italy passed a tough test and beat Belgium 2-1 in an entertaining EURO 2020 quarter-final.
In the 15th minute, Leonardo Bonucci sparked the euphoria of the Italian fans with a surprise goal, but it was disallowed by the VAR due to a previous offside.
In the 31st minute, Marco Verratti won the ball back near the penalty area and played a pass to Nicolo Barella, who with a great individual movement left three defenders in his path and with a powerful shot scored the first goal of the match.
In the 44th minute, Lorenzo Insigne received a pass from Nicolo Barella, dribbled past Youri Tielemans and unleashed an unstoppable shot that beat Thibaut Courtois.
In first half stoppage time, Giovanni Di Lorenzo committed a naive foul on Jeremy Doku inside the box and referee Slavko Vincic awarded Belgium a penalty. Romelu Lukaku took the heavy chance and, without hesitation, scored his team’s first goal.
Lukaku himself almost scored the equaliser in the second half, but the ball hit the post and the Belgian hopes faded as the minutes ticked away.
In the other match of the day, Spain defeated Switzerland 3-1 on penalties after a thrilling 1-1 draw.
The Azzurri and La Roja will now meet in the semi-finals at the legendary Wembley Stadium.
