On Saturday, Belgium kicked off their EURO 2020 campaign with a 3-0 win over Russia in St Petersburg.
The man of the match was Romelu Lukaku: he scored a brace and made a special tribute to Christian Eriksen.
The Dane (who is Lukaku’s team-mate at Inter) had a medical emergency during his national team’s match against Finland and had to receive CPR on the pitch. He is now in a stable condition in hospital.
In the 10th minute, Mertens sent a cross into the box and when it looked like defender Semenov would clear the ball safely, he made an unexpected mistake that allowed Lukaku to score the first goal of the game.
The striker celebrated his goal by shouting “Chris, Chris, I love you” in front of a television camera.
In the 34th minute, Thorgan Hazard tried a shot from half distance that goalkeeper Shunin saved, but he conceded a rebound that Meunier tapped in for his team’s second goal.
In the 88th minute, Meunier played a great through ball to Lukaku, who did not hesitate to score the third goal of the match.
With this win, Belgium are top of Group B with three points and a goal difference of +3. In other results, Wales and Switzerland drew 1-1, while Finland defeated Denmark 1-0.
