Manchester United Take Spoils in Dramatic 2-1 West Ham Win

Manchester United recorded their fourth Premier League win of the season after coming from behind to claim victory in London against West Ham on Sunday.

The hosts had a chance to remain undefeated for this campaign but Mark Noble missed an injury-time penalty with his first touch of the ball as he had just entered the game.

West Ham took the lead when Mohamed Said Benrahma’s strike from outside the area went in after a deflection came off defender Raphael Varane half an hour into the game.

Five minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his fourth goal in three games after re-signing for United. He had his close-range shot saved by West Ham keeper Fabianski following a Bruno Fernandes cross, but tapped in the rebound after the goalie couldn’t hold onto the ball: at 36 years of age, the superstar signing is proving to be a revelation for United.

Two minutes before the end of regulation time, Jesse Lingard, who had spent a successful loan spell at the London Stadium last season, scored with a kick into the top corner to send the Mancunian away supporters into raptures.

“We deserved to win. I think we created some big chances, we had pressure on them, should have had a few penalties, great response when they scored, good attitude, very good away performance in a difficult cauldron; the stadium is hard here,” said United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the match.

Later on Sunday, Chelsea come out on top against Tottenham winning by 3-0 with all three goals scored in the second half.

The Blues opened the scoring four minutes after the break when Thiago Silva headed past Hugo Lloris from Marcos Alonso’s corner.

Half-time substitute N’Golo Kante added a second with his first goal in 49 Premier League appearances after his long-range shot was deflected by Eric Dier.

Antonio Rudiger scored in the stoppage time with the game finishing at White Hart Lane at 3-0 in Chelsea’s favour.

In the final match on Sunday, Brighton defeated Leicester City by 2-1, to continue the impressive start to the campaign of the Seagulls.

After five rounds Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are on the top with 13 points, followed by Brighton with 12 and Manchester City and Everton with 10.
