The saga has come to the end, Leo Messi has moved to Paris Saint-Germain!
PSG, by many the most powerful football club on the planet, has made the biggest victory in club history.
On Monday, two days before the club’s 51st anniversary, one of the greatest football players of all time and an icon of the last generation, Leo Messi, has officially signed a two-year contract with the Parisians.
This is by far the greatest moment in the club’s history.
PSG has never won a major European trophy, it is not even the winningest club in France – so in that sense, it does not belong to the European elite with Real Madrid, Milan, Liverpool, Bayern or Barcelona, but Messi’s arrival is certainly a historic step towards that group.
PSG has demonstrated huge power when they took Neymar from Barcelona in the biggest transfer of all time and became an even bigger European brand after adding the best young player on the planet, Kylian Mbappé.
The Qatari owners spent almost a billion and a half euros to get in a position to compete with the greatest clubs and reach a status when they will be able to land one of the best players of all time.
Messi will earn €35 million per season in the next two years.
He decided to wear number 30 in PSG, the number that he wore in the first two seasons in Barcelona.
“I am impatient to start a new chapter of my career in Paris,” Messi said. “The club and its vision are in perfect harmony with my ambitions. I know how talented the players and staff are here. I am determined to build, alongside them, something great for the club and for the fans. I can’t wait to set foot on the Parc des Princes pitch.”
PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi didn’t hide his pride of the deal the club has reached.
“I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join PSG. He did not hide his desire to continue to evolve at the highest level and to win trophies. The ambition of the club is of course identical. The addition of Leo to our world-class team confirms the relevance and success of our recruitment. Together with our great coach and his staff, I look forward to seeing our team make history for all of our supporters around the world,” said al-Khelaifi.
