Mohamed Salah Signs New 2-Year Deal To Stay at Liverpool

Liverpool announced on Friday that Mohamed Salah has agreed to a new contract that will keep him at the club beyond the current season.

This two-year agreement resolves ongoing speculation about Salah’s future, particularly as his previous contract was set to expire this summer.

In September, Salah expressed concerns about his future at Liverpool, noting that there had been no discussions about renewing his contract.

Nevertheless, Salah is now poised to remain at Liverpool for a ninth year, following a season in which he scored 32 goals in 45 matches for the Premier League leaders.

Declan Rice delivered a standout performance that propelled Arsenal to a victory over Real Madrid.

“Of course, I’m very excited,” Salah told Liverpoolfc.com. “We have a great team now, as we did before. I re-signed because I believe we have a chance to win more trophies and enjoy my football.”

“It’s fantastic; I’ve had my best years here. I’ve played eight years, and hopefully, it will be 10. I’m enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. These have been the best years of my career.”

Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, the 32-year-old has become a fan favorite, scoring 243 goals in 394 appearances and winning three Golden Boots as the Premier League’s top scorer.

Salah is on track to win his fourth Golden Boot this season with 27 goals, leading Erling Haaland by six goals as Liverpool stands 11 points clear at the top during manager Arne Slot’s first season.

Winning the league this year would secure Salah’s second Premier League title, adding to his collection of a Champions League title, FA Cup, and two League Cup trophies with Liverpool.

“He has shown at this club for many years how valuable he is to the team and the club,” Slot told reporters on Friday. “Like the fans and his teammates, we are all very happy that he has extended his contract for two more years.”

He further commented, “I don’t think it will surprise you to know that I was better informed about his contract situation throughout the season. It may have been a pleasant surprise for the fans – I had known for a while that things were heading in the right direction.”

Liverpool faces a challenging match against West Ham on Sunday, aiming to rebound after their 26-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League was ended by Fulham last week.

Two other key players, defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, also face contract expirations this summer, with Alexander-Arnold reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid.
