Ronaldo Grabs Late Winner for Man United Against Atalanta

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a header nine minutes before the end to complete a stunning Manchester United comeback against Atalanta in the Champions League.

United got off to a terrible start as goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral gave the visiting side a 2-0 lead inside the opening half an hour.

Fred and Marcus Rashford had amazing opportunities to score for United before the break but they missed open shots.

However, United emerged from the half-time break looking like a completely different side and Rashford’s early strike brought back hope for 75,000 fans at ‘Old Trafford’.

Captain Harry Maguire scored an equalizer with a smart finish 15 minutes from time, before a trademark Ronaldo leap and header secured a 3-2 win to cap other memorable Champions League night in Manchester.

United was a favorite to win in front of the packed stadium but things went downhill in perhaps the crucial match for Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s tenure as manager.

“I thought we played well first half too. Two chances, two goals. It had to stop if we are to survive,” Solskjaer said after the match.

“We have a habit of doing this at this club. I thought we played well and they scored a goal out of nothing and then another set-piece. But they never stopped believing and kept going.”

“And Cristiano is great in front of goal. If anyone wants to criticize him for effort and work rate just watch this game. Watch how he runs around,” finished Solskjaer.

In Wednesday night’s other games, Barcelona finally registered their first win in Group E at the third time of asking, with a 1-0 home win over Dynamo Kiev.

Group E also saw Bayern dismantle Benfica by 4-0, and with the same scoreline in Group H, Chelsea thrashed Malmo at Stamford Bridge.
