Four Golfers Carry Thailand’s Olympic Medal Hopes

If Thais dream of seeing their country’s flag on a podium at the Tokyo Olympics, they should look to golf, a sport where there is a considerable chance of that happening.

Four Thai golfers will be in contention for a medal: Patty Tavatanakit and Ariya Jutanugarn will do so in the women’s competition, while Jazz Janewattananond and Gunn Charoenkul will do so in the men’s tournament.

The highest hopes will rest with the females, as both Patty and Ariya are major tournament champions and therefore it is not a far-fetched idea to consider them as favourites at the Olympic Games.

On the other hand, while Jazz and Gunn are not among the best players in the world, they are clear that they did not go to Tokyo on holiday and their medal dreams are strong and big.

Patty, who in April won her first major trophy in the 2021 ANA inspiration will have a lot of expectations on her shoulders.

It will not be an easy task to deal with the pressure, also considering that she is only 21 years old and this will be her first Olympics.

Ariya, who has won 12 LPGA Tour titles, will be looking for redemption in Tokyo after a poor showing at Rio 2016. Thirst for revenge could play in her favour.
