Roger Federer Beats Gasquet To Face Britain’s Cameron Norrie

Roger Federer’s solid win at Wimbledon on Thursday over Richard Gasquet sealed his ticket to the third round, where he will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie.

With a comfortable three-set 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 6-4 victory, the Swiss extended his dominance and his winning record over the Frenchman to 19-2.

With this triumph, Federer became the only player in history to reach the third round of this Grand Slam on 18 different occasions. He is also the oldest player in the last 46 years to reach this round.

As for the match, ‘His Majesty’ showed a much more consistent and crafty style of play than in his previous match against Adrian Mannarino. The first set was tight until the tie-break, where Federer was a steamroller.

In the second set, Roger didn’t slow down and, once he broke his opponent’s serve, he was unstoppable.

In the third set, Gasquet persisted, but there was nothing to do against an inspired, superb and mentalised Federer who hit 49 winners.

Now, Norrie, who reached the Wimbledon round of 32 for the first time in his career after beating Australian Alex Bolt 6-3 6-1 6-2, will be his opponent.

In other results of the day, Alexander Zverev beat Tennys Sandgren 7-5 6-2 6-3, while Russian Daniil Medvedev defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-4 6-1 6-2
