Ben Simmons Will Not Report to Sixers Training Camp

Philadelphia 76ers All-star guard Ben Simmons is determined not to take part in the team’s training camp next week. Additionally, Simmons has no intentions to play another game for the Sixers and has not spoken to the team since late August.

Last week in Los Angeles, Simmons met with Sixers co-managing partner Josh Harris, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, general manager Elton Brand and coach Doc Rivers when he made it clear he no longer wants to remain on the 76ers.

By missing training camp, Simmons risks being fined and sanctioned by the team, but he is determined to force a trade from Philadelphia.

However, the Sixers front office has yet to find a trade partner for the former Kia Rookie of the Year.

While there are several teams interested in Simmons, the Sixers’ asking price for Simmons may be the issue.

Simmons was the first pick of the 2016 NBA draft and has spent his entire career in Philadelphia.

Last season, he averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game.

Simmons was the one who was blamed for the Sixers second-round loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

He shot 34% from the free-throw line in the playoffs and missed 27 free throws alone in the Hawks series. He didn’t take any shot in the fourth quarters in five of the seven games in that series.

The things fell apart in game seven when he surrendered the opportunity to take an easy layup and passed the ball to Matisse Thybulle in the corner who missed a three.

After that loss, the Sixers top scorer Joel Embiid and head coach Doc Rivers didn’t hide the disappointment in Simmons which resulted in his will to part ways with the team.
