Fans will no longer have to have a vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test. This decision will take effect on December 1. Thus, the fans will no longer have to respect the protocol that has been in force since the beginning of the season.
Thunders leaders believe that there is no need for restrictions to continue to apply to fans.
The largest percentage of fans who come to matches at home have a vaccination certificate. The club decided to change the protocol, aware that the situation with COVID has started to calm down.
Thunder Vice President of Communications Dan Mahoney spoke about it. “We’re not out of this yet,” he said. “This is not a statement that COVID is over. We looked at the trend from September to now late November and that’s where we end up with the cases down, the hospitalizations down, vaccination rate up.”
The Thunders made this decision in consultation with medical experts. That doesn’t mean that fans shouldn’t be careful. All fans who feel certain symptoms should be tested before they decide to eventually come to the game.
On the other hand, the president of the Oklahoma State Medical Association, Dr. Mary Clarke is not satisfied with the decision made by the mentioned club.
There has been a noticeable increase in the number of patients in the last few weeks. Dr. Clarke believes that fans should still have a vaccination certificate so that they can watch the game.
“I am concerned,” she said. “I’m a little disappointed that they’re no longer going to require those. The Thunder have been the absolute forerunner of making sure they have an arena to go to that is safe for themselves and for their fans.”
