On Friday, it was announced that financial compensations have been finalised for the families of the deceased and the victims injured in Tuesday’s Siam Paragon shopping mall shooting.
Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol said that each deceased family will be granted 6.2 million baht: 1.2 million from the government and 5 million from Siam Paragon shopping mall.
She also noted that the injured parties would be granted 350,000 baht each, with the government contributing 50,000 baht and 300,000 baht coming from Siam Paragon.
“In addition, Giffarine Skyline Unity Co., Ltd. has expressed its intention to contribute 1 million baht to the government for the relief efforts aimed at those affected by this tragic incident,” she stated.
The tragic shooting occurred on Tuesday when a 14-year-old perpetrator used a modified blank-firing pistol to fire live ammunition inside Siam Paragon Mall. The incident claimed several lives, among them a Chinese and a Myanmar citizen, and left five others wounded.
The young offender is now facing five counts, including premeditated murder and unauthorized gun ownership.
The parents of the teenage gunman have extended a sincere apology to the victims, the injured, and all their family members. In a letter to the impacted individuals, the father conveyed deep remorse.
The letter reads: “My family and I would like to humbly ask for forgiveness and extend our profound apologies to the family of the deceased, the injured, and their families who were most affected by this event, and to everyone from the deepest recesses of our hearts, with our utmost respect.”
“We greatly regret also the damage and impact to the country as a whole,” he added in the letter.
He further revealed that his son is being held at the Juvenile Observation and Protection Centre, following the Juvenile Court’s orders.
“My family and I did not apply for bail because we intend to cooperate fully with the authorities in search of the facts and to ensure that there will not be a repeat of the same violent incident,” he stated.
The father assured that they are committed to working with law enforcement, government officials, and every agency during the legal process, and they will assist in alleviating the consequences of this tragic event to the fullest extent possible.
