Thailand Logs 12,709 Covid-19 Infections and 106 Deaths Monday

The Public Health Ministry said Thailand had registered 12,709 new Covid-19 cases and 106 new coronavirus-related deaths during the past 24 hours.

The latest death toll was the lowest reported in a day since July 26.

According to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), Greater Bangkok had the highest number of deaths, with 52, while the rest were reported in 29 other provinces.

On Sunday, health officials announced that the number of new infections had fallen for the third consecutive day. However, the daily case toll exceeded the recoveries figures (11,125 Covid-19 patients recovered) and the case toll registered on September 14.

Such figures also included 11,851 new cases among the general population, 858 transmissions among inmates, and 11 arrivals. Imported cases from abroad were seven from Cambodia, two from the United States, one from Israel, and one from Myanmar.

Bangkok also led the latest case toll, reporting 2,831 infections, followed by Samut Prakan (942) and Chon Buri (532).

New domestic cases decreased from Friday, when health authorities reported 14,546 transmissions, to 12,698 on Monday. Bangkok also logged fewer infections today after detecting 2,911 on Friday.

CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirungson recently said that two conditions for Thailand’s reopening were a significant decrease in new cases and disease control measures to prepare for further surges. Moreover, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Governor Aswin Kwanmuang stated that at least 70% of the capital’s 7-million population should receive their second Covid-19 shot before allowing international tourists to enter the city again.

Since Thailand’s vaccination campaign began, only 42% of Bangkok’s residents have received their second coronavirus shot.

Thailand has logged 1,489,186 Covid-19 cases, with 1,341,363 recoveries, since the pandemic started early last year. The death toll stood at 15,375 during the third wave, totaling 15,469 since March 2020.

On August 13, the country recorded its highest number of daily cases, finding 23,418 infections. Five days later, on August 18, Thailand also reported its all-time 24-hour high of coronavirus-related fatalities, with 312.

Health authorities also reported today that 132,573 people had received Covid-19 treatment in hospitals. The figure also included 3,592 seriously ill and 773 ventilator-dependent patients.
