Thailand To Host Summer Sonic and Tomorrowland Music Fest

Thailand is set to become the first ASEAN country to host Japan’s well-renowned music festival, “Summer Sonic,” along with Belgium’s celebrated EDM (Electronic Dance Music) festival, “Tomorrowland,” announced government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke on Friday.

The plan to bring international music festivals to Thailand aligns with the government’s strategy to leverage the creative industry as a catalyst for economic growth and to establish Thailand as a premier destination for global festivals, thereby enhancing its tourism sector.

Mr. Chai revealed that “Summer Sonic Bangkok 2024” is slated for August 24 to 25 this year at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province.

This marks the festival’s debut in the ASEAN region and represents its second occurrence outside of Japan, signifying a milestone for the music festival series.

An official press briefing for “Summer Sonic Bangkok 2024” is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 27, Mr. Chai announced.

Regarding the EDM festival “Tomorrowland,” plans are in place to host the event in Thailand starting in 2026, with the potential for it to continue annually for a decade, he further stated.

Furthermore, Mr. Chai mentioned that discussions between Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and organizers of various international events have been held, exploring the potential for hosting such prestigious events in Thailand, including talks with the Formula One Group, Formula E, and Art Basel.

“Summer Sonic” is a distinguished annual music festival that takes place on one weekend in August, simultaneously held in Chiba and Osaka, Japan.

It is known for its diverse lineup, featuring a wide range of genres including rock, pop, electronic, and hip hop, drawing major international acts as well as prominent local artists.

On the other hand, “Tomorrowland” is a globally acclaimed electronic dance music festival that occurs annually in Boom, Antwerp, Belgium, known for its large-scale production and immersive experience.

Since its inception in 2005, the festival has grown in popularity, featuring a vast array of genres within electronic music, including house, techno, dubstep, and more, played by the most renowned DJs and producers from around the globe.
