Wife of Senior Cop Arrested Over Suspicion of Serial Murders

A top-ranking police officer’s spouse has been arrested for the homicide of a Kanchanaburi woman, and detectives are looking into her potential involvement in the deaths of six other women.

Authorities identified the suspect as Sararat “Aem” Rangsiwuthaporn. The husband’s identity was withheld, but he was said to be a deputy provincial police superintendent in Ratchaburi province.

On Tuesday around 11 am, officers detained Ms. Sararat at the government office compound on Chaeng Wattana road in Bangkok. She had a container of cyanide with her.

The apprehension occurred after a complaint from the mother and older sibling of Siriporn “Koy” Khanwong, 32, who hailed from Kanchanaburi.

Ms. Siriporn collapsed and passed away near the Mae Klong riverbank in Ban Pong district while participating in a fish-releasing ritual for merit-making on April 14. Cyanide was detected in her system.

Detectives suspect that Ms. Sararat could be the individual who mixed Siriporn’s meal with cyanide, resulting in her death. She is also accused of stealing the deceased’s belongings.

Authorities stated that the inquiry is being broadened to determine if Ms. Sararat had any connection to the deaths of six other women she had interacted with and who passed away in a similar fashion. Among the seven deceased, two were policewomen.

Around 11 pm on Tuesday, the passing of another woman, Kanika Tuladecharak, 44, was reported to the police by her father and child. They believed that Ms. Sararat played a part in Kanika’s death.

The daughter recounted that on September 11, 2022, Kanika drove from her residence in Bangkok to meet with Ms. Sararat in Ratchaburi. Subsequently, her mother accompanied Ms. Sararat in the same vehicle.

Per the information provided to her relatives, Kanika eventually fainted and died at a PTT gas station. Some of her possessions, such as a mobile phone, money, and gold jewelry, went missing.

Kanika’s family suspected Ms. Sararat of being responsible for her death.
