Italy Kick Off EURO 2020 By Thrashing Turkey 3-0

This Friday, EURO 2020 kicked off with the long-awaited opening match between Italy and Turkey at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Expectations were high for this game, as it is the one that started the tournament.

After the kick-off, Italy took possession of the ball, while Turkey defended with their 11 men.

Chiellini almost scored for his team with a great header from a corner kick, but a great save from goalkeeper Cakir prevented it. Another header, this time by Immobile, almost put Italy ahead, but the ball went wide.

In the 53rd minute, the ‘Azzurri’ found their deserved first goal in unexpected fashion. Berardi put in a cross, but the ball deflected off the body of defender Demiral before ending up in the back of the net.

A weak shot from Under was Turkey’s only scoring chance.

In the 66th minute, Berardi sent in another cross and Spinazzola attempted a powerful volley that Cakir saved. However, he conceded a rebound which Immobile converted for Italy’s second goal.

In the 79th minute, Cakir made a bad pass and a few seconds later, Immobile gave a great assist to Insigne to score the third goal.

The next match of the ‘Nazionale’ will be on Wednesday 16 June against Switzerland. On the same day, Turkey will face Wales.
