What a start of the Premier League season for Manchester United!
On Saturday afternoon, in front of more than 70,000 people on ‘Old Trafford’, Manchester United paraded their new signing before the match against Leeds United.
The French defender was bought from Real Madrid for £41 million and will be a major force in Ole Gunar Solskjaer squad. United’s defense was vulnerable in the past seasons and with the addition of Varane it seems like they have all they need to fight for the Premier League title this season.
The last of United’s 13 Premier League titles was won in 2013.
The 28-year-old Varane has already won 19 trophies in his career including four Champions Leagues, three Spanish titles and the 2018 World Cup and United fans are hoping that he will continue that run with the ‘Red Devils’.
“Manchester United is one of the most iconic clubs in world football and the chance to come here and play in the Premier League is something I couldn’t turn down,” Varane told the United website.
“There is a lot more that I want to achieve in my career and I know I’m joining a squad full of great players who will all have the same determination to win matches and trophies,” added Varane.
“I want to make an impact here and I will give everything to become part of this club’s illustrious history.”
If the season can be judged by the opening match it will be very successful for United since they beat Leeds United by 5-1.
Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick while Mason Greenwood and Fred scored the other two goals for United.
Luke Ayling scored the only goal for Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
Jadon Sancho made his debut for United after his £72 transfer from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.
