Devotees of the festival will have a brief 72-hour period next month to secure their Wonderfruit tickets before they find themselves at the mercy of scalpers and Viagogo.
It was revealed by the festival’s organizers on Tuesday night, May 16, that the three-day purchasing period, intended to manage attendance is scheduled to start at 6pm on June 14 and conclude at 6pm on June 17.
The highly anticipated festival ticket is priced at THB 8,900 (US$260).
The fear of missing out (FOMO) is palpably more intense than the previous year when the window for buying tickets began at THB6,000 and rose by THB500 every day.
The festival claimed that “limited” tickets were available at the entrance for THB15,000.
Publicized on Instagram, the fresh peak in ticket price provoked immediate criticism from those upset about the price hike, the lack of a confirmed lineup, and an evident absence of weekend-only tickets.
The festival added an extra day to the 2023 event, extending the total duration to five days, but most patrons are expected to arrive from Friday to Sunday.
“Wonderflation,” the most upvoted comment stated.
Some voiced their dissatisfaction with the seemingly insincere marketing tactics.
“Wonderfruit must have employed some marketers previously dealing with shitcoins. ONE DAY ONLY! EXXCLUUUUSSiVEEEEE!!!!!”
However, many people continue to hold the festival in high esteem, praising its vast offering of music, visual delights, and entertainment.
“[I] adore the team at Wonderfruit, sending love from Singapore,” a fan expressed. “You transformed and saved my life. Excited for what’s ahead.”
Several attendees called for greater transparency in how the event’s capacity would be managed and what steps would be implemented to enhance the overall experience, particularly with respect to transportation.
In the wake of two fatalities at last year’s festival, the organizers have refrained from outlining how they plan to address concerns over safety and emergency readiness.
As with the previous edition, the sizable music and lifestyle gala will occur in mid-December at Pattaya’s Siam Country Club.
This year’s festival has been extended to five days, with ticket sales limited to a 72-hour window. Despite the lack of detailed information, the organizers have revealed that they’ve taken time to “replenish, regenerate, and grow.”
