Topgolf Thailand recently brought together 40 young chefs to participate in a MasterChef style cook-off, in the hope of recruiting Bangkok’s top culinary talent for the soon-to-open Topgolf Megacity, next to Megabangna. This will be the first Topgolf sports entertainment complex in South East Asia when they have got into full swing and opened in Q3, 2022.
The event saw the budding chefs compete in front of a celebrated judging panel with the chance to land a job, getting Topgolf’s creative recruitment campaign underway that aims to hire a total of 400 staff to run the 47,000 sq m venue. Thailand will join the US, Mexico, UK, Germany, UAE, China and Australia as one of the countries where Topgolf operates.
Bangkokians can look forward to some great times at Topgolf Megacity, where the typical driving range has been transformed into a hi-tech family entertainment center, perfect for all comers, from beginner level through to advanced, to build golfing skills. There is also an eclectic menu of delicious dishes, which Topgolf are renowned for around the world.
The Food Trust Hosted Cook-Off Featuring Talented Young Chefs
The Food Trust is a community-focused multifunctional space that Dylan Jones, a judge of the Topgolf cook-off, operates with his wife Duangporn “Bo” Songvisava in the impressive former home of Bo.lan, the Michelin-starred Thai fine dining eatery they ran for 13 years.
In the picture at the top of the article, you can see the judges with a contestant presenting some dishes. From left to right, the first judge is Dylan Jones, who we’ve just talked about, sat beside Tim Boda, Topgolf Thailand’s Head of Operations, alongside Daniel Bucher, the Topgolf Megacity Executive Chef and Food Sustainability Manager, followed by respected chef Ubolrat Chewteerapluk, a famous figure in Thailand also known as Madame Tuang.
You can see in the second picture below Thitid Tassanakajohn, or Chef Ton, the Thai-born Michelin-starred chef: he’s the man behind Sathorn’s Le Du (it came 4th on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021) and its sister restaurant Baan, both superb establishments. The judges between them had vast knowledge to draw upon of large-scale restaurant operations.
During the cook-off, the participating chefs were given 40 minutes to prepare their dishes, that were later presented to the panel. They were tasked with reviewing the performance of the talent when taking teamwork, technique, creativity and sustainability into account.
The esteemed jury also tasted the dishes submitted for assessment, in their search to find the most delicious creations of the day. Overall, they were impressed with the high calibre of the candidates who applied to join the event, organized to discover Topgolf Megacity’s culinary rockstars – a number of the skillful chefs were recruited to join the team, with the clock now ticking until Topgolf’s first South East Asian center is ready to open its doors.
