Nissan’s New Office Pod Concept Focuses on Remote Working

The ‘new reality’ in the COVID-19 era has also inspired novel tech creations. One of them is the most recent Nissan concept vehicle.

This innovative car features a retractable office ideal for remote workers or digital-world enthusiasts. Under the name of “Office Pod Concept,” it arrives as a workspace on wheels.

It features a spacious desk for a large monitor and a Cosm chair modified by American furniture manufacturer Herman Miller.

This concept vehicle is a modified version of Nissan’s NV350 Caravan released in 2012, which currently retails in Japan from 22,000 to $ 38,000. It was created for this year’s Tokyo Auto Show, but the unveiling was staged virtually as Japan’s capital is in a state of emergency due to the increase in COVID-19 cases.

The retractable office also works perfectly for those seeking privacy.

Users can settle inside the capsule with the doors closed, as it has electric curtains that help deter prying eyes without affecting ambient lighting – giving it a futuristic feel.

Besides, the capsule can be extended from the back in seconds.

Digital nomads and remote workers can use the trunk door as a cover for their outdoor office. Moreover, the vehicle’s rooftop can become a space for relaxation to rest for a while under a parasol.

Among other features, it also has a glove compartment equipped with a UV antibacterial lamp.

According to Nissan, the UV lamp’s function is to disinfect personal items such as wallets and phones. The modern car also has a clear polycarbonate floor that allows people to see what is happening underneath.

“For the past year, (the) coronavirus pandemic has significantly accelerated the work-from-home trend and many office workers are now having a variety of issues working home,” Nissan explained.

“Nissan wants to solve these issues by giving those workers more choice of where and how they work,” the company added.

The manufacturer has said it has no plans to sell the new design to the mass market. However, it stated that they are considering making some of the modified individual models available to customers.
