An exhibition match between two of the Premier League’s top teams Manchester United and Liverpool to be played in Bangkok this July has been agreed, and a press conference to officially announce the game has been set for March 9th.
Event organiser Fresh Air Festival Co., Ltd. announced on Friday that a contract has been signed to stage the game at Rajamangala Stadium, Ramkaenghaem on July 12th.
Fresh Air Festival CEO Vinij Lertratanachai has revealed that the in-demand game will be named “THE MATCH Bangkok Century Cup 2022”.
Both of the Premier League giants will send their main squads to Thailand to play in front of a crowd of Thai and expats, according to Vinij.
The CEO stated that the game will promote Thailand to a global audience, and lure tourists to the country as its economy recovers from the pandemic. Thailand also has the opportunity to project a favorable image as a sports tourist destination by hosting such a prestigious match, the CEO went on to say.
The press conference is set to take place at Siam Paragon on March 9 at 3pm.
On March 10, early-bird tickets will be available. On March 11, regular tickets will go on sale, with prices ranging from 5,000 to 25,000 baht.
Each buyer has the option of reserving up to four tickets.
Due of the Covid-19 pandemic, Premier League clubs have avoided their lucrative pre-season tours of Asia for the previous two years.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will take on United in Bangkok on July 12 before they head to Singapore on July 15 to face Crystal Palace.
Klopp has been hugely successful as the manager of Liverpool, while Ralf Rangnick is the temporary manager of United, having been appointed on an interim basis in November.
Liverpool are now in second place in the Premier League and hard on the heels of leaders Manchester City. Manchester United meanwhile are in fourth place and battling for a Champions League spot for next season.
