Gisele Bündchen has said her marriage to Tom Brady “is over” and she doesn’t think it can be repaired, a source told the media.
According to an insider, the Brazilian supermodel is ready to end her 13-year marriage to the professional football player and “move on.”
“She is done with their marriage. She was upset about it for a long time and it’s still difficult, but she feels like she needs to move on. She doesn’t believe that her marriage can be repaired,” the source told People.
Bündchen, who has reportedly been working with a divorce attorney for weeks, “is doing okay” and “just trying to figure out her life,” the insider stated, adding that she didn’t have much contact with Tom.
The couple shares two children – Benjamin Rein, 12, and Vivian Lake, 9. Brady has a 15-year-old third son, John Edward, with ex Bridget Moynahan.
The source close to Bündchen said that although she “feels bad for the kids,” she does not expect custody issues.
Rumors of a rough patch in Bündchen and Brady’s marriage have spread in recent months after he returned to the NFL to play another season, pausing his retirement.
Multiple sources told People that Brady’s decision to back off had created “a lot of tension” between the couple.
“There’s a lot of tension. She was so happy when he announced his retirement, and she wasn’t thrilled at all when he went back on that,” insiders revealed earlier this week.
“They’re hitting a rough patch. But I know they’re trying, or at least he’s trying, to figure it out and make it work. He wants to get through this and for things to get better.”
However, other sources say the pair’s struggles aren’t limited to the 45-year-old quarterback’s return to football, adding that “it’s complicated” and “there’s a lot more.”
Both have hired divorce lawyers to figure out the next phase in their relationship, but “she’s the one steering the divorce,” said another insider.
Bündchen is reportedly playing offense while Brady, who is reportedly hurting, is playing defense as he wants to protect himself. However, he does not want to fight and hopes the divorce will go “as smoothly as possible” if it is happening.
