Adele’s Comeback Single Hit UK Charts’ Top With Record Figures

Adele’s comeback single has become UK number one with the biggest chart figures for a track in the last five years.

Since its release last week, her new song Easy On Me has amassed 24 million streams and 23,500 downloads in the UK.

Based on the Official Charts Company’s formula, the figures are equivalent to 217,300 sales, the highest number since Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You was released in January 2017, reaching 226,800 copies sold.

The single belongs to Adele’s highly-anticipated album “30,” expected to be released next month, and has also reached a record 84.9 million plays on Spotify globally during its first week.

The 33-year-old singer recently told Vogue Magazine that she had recorded “30” to help her six-year-old son understand her split from his father.

Speaking about Easy On Me’s lyrics, she explained: “It’s not like anyone’s having a go at me, but it’s like, I left the marriage. Be kind to me as well.”

Adele also revealed that it was the first song she wrote for the album, adding: “And then I didn’t write anything else for six months after because I was like, ‘OK, well, I’ve said it all.”

Easy On Me is her third song to reach the UK number one, following her 2011 hit Someone Like You and 2016 awarded track Hello.

With its monumental figures, the pop superstar’s first track from her new record will boost the British music industry after 18 unfavorable months.

Meanwhile, Coldplay has become another key factor for the British music industry’s recovery. Their latest album, Music of the Spheres, has become this year’s fastest-selling album amassing 101,000 charts sales.

Music of the Spheres is the band’s ninth record to become the UK number one album in a row. The last album to reach such a milestone was Ed’s No. 6 Collaborations Project, which opened with 125,000 sales in July 2019.

Adele, who is coming back to music after a six-year break, is also breaking records on the US charts. Local media expect the singer to return to her native UK next month to introduce her new boyfriend, Rich Paul, to her family.
