Late on Sunday US time, Giannis Antetokounmpo produced a brilliant performance in the Milwaukee Bucks 120-100 win over Phoenix Suns.
It is a triumph that allows them to stay alive in the NBA Finals (At this time, they are now 2-1 down in the series).
Antetokounmpo contributed 41 points, 13 rebounds and six assists to the all-important victory for the Bucks.
He also became just the sixth player in NBA Finals history to score at least 40 points in consecutive games.
We are talking about a major achievement, as the Greek has joined a select list of legends like Michael Jordan, Jerry West, Shaquille O’Neal, Rick Barry and LeBron James.
Still, despite making history, Antetokounmpo downplayed his contribution and said a short but telling phrase that shows he is still down to earth: “I’m not Michael Jordan”.
Jordan holds the record for consecutive 40-point Finals games with four. However, matching that record is not among Antetokounmpo’s priorities: “All I care about … is getting one more win. Just take care of business, doing our job,” he said.
As for the game, Milwaukee had a tough start and lost the first quarter 25-28, which makes the full-time score all the more impressive a feat.
Under the Greek’s leadership, they swept the second and third quarters (35-17 and 38-31) before Phoenix took the last (22-24).
Game 4 will take place on Wednesday evening and the Bucks will attempt to level the series 2-2.
It is shaping up to be a great NBA finals, with two teams who are well-matched on the court.
